How the 4 nights work
Skin cycling is a schedule, not a product. Night one is an exfoliating acid, night two is a retinoid, and nights three and four are rest nights with just cleanser and moisturizer. Then the cycle starts again. The idea is to use two strong products without stacking them on the same night.
Why rest nights are the best part
Acids dissolve dead skin cells, and retinoids change how your skin renews itself. Both are strong, and dermatologists warn that exfoliating while you use a retinoid can make dryness worse, and that over-exfoliating leaves skin red and irritated. Rest nights give your skin room in between, which is the part of the trend worth keeping.
One cycle
- Night 1: exfoliating acid
After cleansing, on dry skin, then moisturizer.
- Night 2: retinoid
A pea-sized amount, then moisturizer.
- Nights 3 and 4: rest
Cleanser and moisturizer. A thin balm on dry spots if you like.
New to actives?
Start with one product, not two. Using several strong products at once can irritate your skin and makes it hard to tell what suits you. Nubia brings in one active at a time, on a couple of nights a week, and only adds a night when your check-ins say your skin’s comfortable.
Common questions
Do I have to follow the 4 nights exactly?
No. It’s a handy starting schedule. If your skin feels dry or tight, add more rest nights, and if it’s comfortable, keep going as you are.
Can I use niacinamide on rest nights?
Usually, yes. It’s a milder ingredient that most skin handles well. Keep rest nights for your simplest routine, and save anything strong for its own night.
